Kalaloch is the largest and most popular of all ONP campgrounds, offering an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean and easy beach access. It is the only campground besides Sol Duc to require reservations in the summer, and these sites are usually snatched up online as soon as they become available through the Recreation.Gov website. There is an onsite waiting list for unclaimed sites; folks can be seen standing outside all day hoping to get lucky. This process is managed by the camp host.
This area is mostly known for car-camping and day-hiking, as there are no backpacking trailheads nearby. The Kalaloch Lodge has some small cabins to rent, a small restaurant, gift shop, and general store. Firewood must be purchased here; scavenging at the campsites is prohibited.
Don’t be surprised to catch a little blustery weather here, even in July! This is the PNW, after all. But if you do catc good weather on your stay, expect a very memorable trip with fantastic photos!
